My name is Francesco Mariani, I am chef and vine grower in Montefalco, Umbria. I make wines from biodynamic grapes togethet with my friend and assistant Andrea Mattioli. “Raina” was the nickname of the previous owner of the field where we planted the first of our Sagrantino vines. We chose this name for the cantina to preserve the link between the land and its history. Our winery was established in 2002. The vineyards, 10 hectares planted between 2002 and 2008, are located between 220 and 300 metres above sea level. The soil is of medium texture, rich in skeleton. Exposure is mainly south-east. The training system is guyot for all varieties. The planting density is approximately 5700 vines per hectare. In our vineyards we grow Sagrantino, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Merlot, Syrah, Grechetto and Trebbiano Spoletino.
In 2022 we decided to leave the DOC circuit, so all our wines are intentionally certified as IGT Umbria.
